Problem: Lies during political campaigns are “okay”

Government Claim “no legal considerations for lying during elections / referendums” it’s up to opposition to refute … but of course if the lies are secret (FB targeted ads), there is no opportunity to refute.

This has radical implication for the targeted facebook ads … if no-one is aware of the lies being told (“the EU puts polar bears at risk” ?!?) how can the counter-arguments be made.
